2006-2007 Officer
Elections:
Buddy Brinkley was elected President and Gary Marozas was elected Vice-President. Ed Seufert and Gary Bunker were returned as Treasurer and Secretary, respectively.
Treasurer’s Report:
Ed Seufert presented the preliminary numbers for the May 2005 – April 2006 fiscal year. Receipts totaled $74,016, which tracked closely with the budgeted amount of $75,000. Total expenses were $77,758 which were only slightly higher than the $77,450 budget. Total financial assets for the GLRA stand at $29,756.
Manager’s Report:
Johnny Spears reported a
significant increase in vandalism and suspected gang activity. The Work Day is planned for May 20 and the
project list is being compiled. The
major task will be the clearing out of additional brush above the
pavilion. New keys will be swapped out
with the board members after the Memorial Day Picnic. The lifeguard / swim instructor is lined up,
but there remains some safety concerns regarding the beach. It is expected that DHEC will give approval
prior to the Memorial Day Picnic. The
irrigation system needs work and Spears will call a company to look at it. Motion sensing lights will be bought. Ropes, floats, and stakes will be acquired
for the swimming area. An additional
truckload of sand will be brought to the beach.
It is hoped that a resident will bring a BobCat to help scrape the beach
during Work Day.
Committee Reports:
Lake Valve Repair – The original project has been declared complete. The lake currently stands 6 inches below the level where it needs to be. Metts Manufacturing will be contacted regarding the addition of a collar around the water intake to help raise the lake to the original level.
Fish Restocking
– John Kilgo reported that baby fish have been added to the lake. “No Fishing” signs have been installed but
they need to be anchored.
Old Business:
Memorial Day Picnic
– Bob Mell will order the beer and wine per instructions from the board. Gary Marozas urged fewer soft drinks and more
water at the picnic. Dennis Saylor
reported that there would be “more of everything” so we wouldn’t run out of
food. The total food cost is expected to
rise from $2.3K to approximately $3K. It
was requested that Michele Bunker work with Buddy Brinkley on obtaining the
inflatable attractions for the children.
$150 was allocated for door prizes and Bill Mathison was given the
responsibility for obtaining the prizes.
Board members helping out with the picnic were asked to arrive at 9 a.m.
for set-up. The picnic itself would
begin at 12 noon.
Buddy Brinkley also urged
board members to be vigilant regarding vandalism and fishing in the swimming
lake.
New Business:
The board received
information per Larry Morris, Director of Public Works for the City of Aiken,
that the Gem Lakes sewer system sprayfield and retention pond will likely be
developed. The was some thought over the
last two years that it could be acquired as additional park land. The question as to whether or not the new
houses would be brought into the Recreation Association was briefly discussed.
Next Meeting:
The next meeting will be held at the Pavilion on June 10, 2006 at 8:00am.
The meeting adjourned at 9:20 a.m.
