2006 Meeting Minutes
The Gem Lakes Recreation Association Board of Directors met on the morning of Saturday, November 11, 8:15 a.m. at Shoney’s on Whiskey Road.
Present:
Buddy Brinkley, Gary Bunker, Gary Marozas, Bob Mell, Vicki Murray, Ed Seufert, and Johnny Spears.
Minutes:
The minutes from the
October board meeting were approved.
Treasurer’s Report:
Treasurer Ed Seufert distributed the preliminary October statements. Receipts in October totaled $1,138 while total expenses for the month were $5,536. The largest items of expense were for the Oktoberfest. Seufert reported than an additional $1,800 in expenses have yet to come in from the Oktoberfest. The total financial assets for the GLRA stand at $44,504. Seufert gave a revised list of non-dues paying members to Buddy Brinkley.
Recreation Manager’s Report:
Johnny Spears reported that that facility usage continues to be high. About a dozen residents attended the first bingo night.
Security Report:
Johnny Spears reported
neither major problems nor any Halloween-related vandalism. The security cameras appear to be deterring
serious activity.
Wildlife Management Report:
Buddy Brinkley reported
that the mosquito fish are thriving and the bass are growing.
Lake Management Report:
Buddy Brinkley reported
that Metts would be out in late November to begin work on the intake. 6 or 7 boards will be removed to lower the
lake level in order to kill the weeds. The
lake will be brought back up in February.
Old Business:
Project Updates
– The handrail project is currently on hold.
Oktoberfest Review
– The board discussed changes in the food and drink amounts for next year as
follows:
a.
Beer – Increase
from 2 kegs to 3 kegs
b.
Wine – No problem
this year – 8 3-liter bottles white and 2 boxes red
c.
Cakes – Increase
from 2 sheets to 4 sheets
d.
Water and Soft
Drinks – No problem this year – keep at current levels next year
e.
Potato Chips –
Increase to 12 big bags
f.
Sausages – Decrease
from 28 40-count boxes to 20 40-count boxes
g.
Hot Dogs –
Increase from 2 40-count boxes to 6 40-count boxes
h.
German Potato
Salad – Reduce from 15 12-lb boxes to 8 12-lb boxes
i.
Ice – Require 30
16-lb bags next year – consider purchase of an ice machine
j.
Pumpkins - No
problem this year – keep at current levels next year
k.
Prizes – Next
year aim for more variety – greater number but lesser value apiece
The board also considered
the date of next year’s Oktoberfest. It
is tentatively set for October 20, the second-to-last Saturday in the month and
the week before the Fall Steeplechase.
New Business:
Christmas Gathering Planning – The date is set for Saturday, December 16 at 5
p.m. $200 was allocated for signs and
$100 for a coffee machine. Additional
planning will occur at the December board meeting.

Information Items:
The bingo and movie nights are on hiatus until after Christmas.
Next Meeting:
The next meeting will be held at the home of Ed Seufert (2 Sandpiper Place) on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 8:00 a.m. NOTE: This has since been change to the home of Gary Marozas (1018 Hilton Street).
