Meeting Minutes
The Gem Lakes Recreation Association Board of Directors met on the morning of Saturday, May 12, 2007, 8:10 a.m. at the pavilion.
Present:
Buddy Brinkley, Gary Bunker, Gary Marozas, Bill Mathison, Bob Mell, Vickie Murray, Rick Samundsen, Ed Seufert, and Johnny Spears.
Minutes:
The minutes from the April
board meeting were approved.
Treasurer’s Report:
Treasurer Ed Seufert distributed the April statements. Receipts in April totaled $0 while total expenses for the month were $7,710. The largest item of expense in April was $4,450 for capital projects. The total financial assets of the GLRA stand at $21,677. $10,000 was transferred from the money market account to the checking account in April. For the 2006-2007 fiscal year, total revenue was $66,589 while total expenses were $75,765.
Seufert gave the overdue
report to Buddy Brinkley who will begin the door-to-door collection of late
dues. Seufert noted that the treasury is
under the established 90-day savings rule, and he plans to shift funds back
from checking into savings once the 2007-2008 dues begin to come in.
Recreation Manager’s Report:
Johnny Spears reported that
lifeguards are lined up for the swimming season, that MicroBac will be testing
the swimming lake shortly, and that use of the facilities continues at a high
rate. Spears discussed the upcoming Work
Day (May 19) projects and he will forward a list of projects to the board next
week.
Security Report:
The
board discussed the web-camera proposal.
Bill Mathison will replace Dennis Saylor as the security manager and
will transition with Saylor in coming weeks.
The board passed a motion to fix the light pole behind the pavilion and
to make provisions to repower the light.
Lake Management Report:
Buddy Brinkley reported
that the lakes are full and that the overflow on the swimming lake is now
locked with the #1 key.
Old Business:
2nd Grill for the Pavilion – This item will be installed during the upcoming
Work Day.
Sand for the Beach
– Loads 1 and 2 will be spread today.
Load 3 is scheduled to be delivered this coming Tuesday. Load 3 will cost $400.
Springwood Concrete Work – Work on these steps will be handled during the
upcoming Work Day. The current plan is
to lift the concrete, level the ground underneath, and replace the concrete.
New Business:
Election of Officers – The board elected Gary Marozas President, Buddy
Brinkley Vice President, Ed Seufert Treasurer, and Gary Bunker Secretary. Bill Mathison was elected Security Manager
and John Kilgo will be retained as the Wildlife Manager.
2007 Meeting Schedule – The board passed a motion continuing 8 a.m. on the
second Saturday of the month as the regular board meeting time.
Memorial Day Preparation – The Memorial Day Picnic will be held on Saturday,
May 26. The board discussed game and
prize ideas. The board discussed the
need to more equitably divide the leftovers, the possible future need for
ceiling fans in the pavilion, and the need for everyone to show up at 9 a.m. on
May 26 to help set up. The various
responsibilities have been divided as follows:
* Bob Mell - Food from Jo-Jo's (noting a $200 increase
from last year), wine and beer, and cake.

Gary & Michele Bunker - The inflatable water slide and sign-in sheets. The board will evaluate placement on the
morning of the 26th. Gary Bunker will
get with Dennis Saylor regarding the sign-in sheets.

Gary Marozas - Soft drinks. Marozas will
also call Mell regarding paper products and a speaker/amplifier for beach
music.

Buddy Brinkley - Games. The board passed
a motion allocating $160 for prizes.

Vickie Murray and Bill Mathison - Door prizes.
The board passed a motion allocating $75 for a date night prize and $100
for lesser seasonal prizes.
*
Johnny Spears - Order a dumpster from the City of Aiken.
MasterCard –
Ed Seufert will get the Association's card back from Dennis Saylor and give it
to Bob Mell.
Information Items:
Rick Samundsen was welcomed
onto the board.

The next meeting will be held at the pavilion on Saturday, June 9 at 8:00 a.m.
