Gem Lakes Recreation Association Board of Directors

October 13, 2007 Meeting Minutes

The Gem Lakes Recreation Association Board of Directors met on the morning of Saturday, October 13, 2007, 8:10 a.m. at the pavilion.

Present:

Gary Marozas, Bob Mell, Vickie Murray, Rick Samundsen, Johnny Spears, Buddy Brinkley and resident Dennis Saylor.

Minutes:

Since Gary Bunker was unable to attend, Gary Marozas took the meeting minutes.  The minutes from the September board meeting were approved.

Treasurer’s Report:

Since Ed Seufert could not attend; the financial statements will be e-mailed to all board members at his next convenience.

Recreation Manager’s Report:

Johnny Spears reported on a subcontractor estimate to handle the growth on the Brodie dam and it was $2,500 which some comments from the board was reasonable.  Johnny then offered the board his own services to do the same job for $2,000.  The path forward will be addressed at the next meeting in November since this might be a job for Kisner.

Security Manager's Report:

Bill Mathison could not attend to status the previously authorized purchasing of additional cameras.

Wildlife Manager's Report:

John Kilgo was not in attendance.

Lake/Property Management Report:

The board agreed to have Rick Samundsen take over as our Property Management POC from Buddy Brinkley due to Buddy’s heavy load at his job.  Rick plans to get with Steve Kisner to propose a win win situation for allowing him to place the lots in as part of GLRA association.  Such things as having Kisner clear all of the dams etc. sounded very good since no outlay of cash from the GLRA but getting a required job completed. Other ideas include a Par-3 course at the lagoon area.

Johnny stated that Jerry McCarty requested a temporary lowering of the upper lake and Johnny will work with Jerry on possibly handling the upper lake himself and the replacement of the ball that he removed.

The lower lake will be lowered in the mid-November timeframe to catch the frost days for weed kill.

Old Business:

New Grill and Picnic Table - The new picnic table has been installed and the new grill will be installed later in the day.  It was agreed by the board to keep the grill and try to burn off the grill coating.

Pavilion Ceiling Fans – Gary Marozas stated that the fans do go on sale from $40 to $60 each when you buy 8 at a time from Home Depot.  The board approved waiting for the next sale and Gary will advise the board of the exact cost before purchasing them for installation.  It was noted that the cooler weather makes this a lower priority purchase but still a must for next year.

New Business:

Preparations for Oktoberfest - Buddy Brinkley is responsible for the pumpkins and the board allocated $725. Buddy said Ricks had the best deal for less than what we spent last year. Bob Mell will provide the beer, wine, and food.  All have been procured and the 500 engraved steins should be arriving any day.  Bill Mathison will handle the drinks. Vickie Murray will arrange for the desserts - pies and a German chocolate cake. Gary Marozas and Bob Mell will move the grill trailer Saturday from the GBClub.  Dennis Saylor was in attendance and has offered up to cook and bring large pans of sauteed onions and sauerkraut.

Work Day Activities – Proposed activities include digging out steps to the fishing lack dock and beginning the dam brush/tree clearances.

Next Meeting:

The next meeting will be held at Shoneys (Voted on by the board) on Saturday, November 10th at 8:00 a.m.

The meeting adjourned at 9:00 a.m.
